Journey from the past to future SISI has been inhabited since the Minoan era according to the archeological findings on the hill Kefali and was in a position of great strategic and commercial importance. Later, Sisi functioned as a port, from where the carobs and almonds , the main export product, were transported. During the revolution of 1821 it was a refuge for militants and its natural harbour was used to transport ammunition. In recent decades, due to tourism, it has experienced tremendous growth resulting in it becoming a popular tourist destination mainly due to the beaches and natural beauty.
